South Coast Sagas

Touring Iceland’s south coast is a journey through an ever-changing landscape. You better have your camera ready because you’ll pass over rocky heaths, through verdant valleys, past thundering waterfalls and black beaches stretching far out into the white waves breaking on the sand. Dotted along the way are picturesque villages, agricultural communities and isolated farmhouses, bearing witness to a history that stretches back to the exploring days of the Norsemen that first settled the country in the 9^th century.

All of Icelandic nature is beautiful in its own way but what makes the south coast so special are the contrasts along the way. Lush farmland gives way to long stretches of volcanic deserts, roaring waterfalls tumble over the edge of jagged and rocky cliffs down onto the flat plains below, and icy calm glaciers provide a dramatic backdrop for otherwise seemingly endless lava fields that look like they’ve only just cooled down.

Some of the highpoints of the tour include the impressive waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the small coastal village of Vík, the black sand of Reynisfjara beach, and the Sólheimajökull glacier. This is a chance to see some of the most wonderful attractions Iceland has to offer in the space of a single day.
